"The Bible is God's word because it says so"

Atheists routinely impute the following argument to Christians:

"The Bible is God's because the Bible says so."

They then proceed to point out that this is viciously circular.

Now, you don't usually see them quoting any Christian apologist who uses that argument. Even if some Christians use that argument, it just means some Christians are philosophically unsophisticated. But for now I'd like to make a different point.

Pop atheists (e.g. Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens) routinely use the following type of argument to disprove the Bible:

"The Bible is not God's word because it contains morally offensive commands, and it contains morally offensive commands because the Bible is not God's word."

They prove this by quoting various passages from the Mosaic law, which they find morally offensive.

We could, of course, discuss their prooftexts (which I've done from time to time). But my immediate point is that the way atheists disprove the Bible is the mirror image of the viciously circular argument they impute to Christians. It's the same kind of circular argument in reverse. But if one is fallacious, so is the other.

  1. POPE FRANCIS ---THEISTIC EVOLUTION? BY STEVE FINNELL

Is theistic evolution a Biblical concept? Pope Francis says, yes.
Is God an all powerful omnipotent God? Pope Francis says, no.

In a speech on October 27, 2014 Pope Francis said "The Big Bang , which currently appears to explain the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of a divine creator but demands it."

Pope Francis said, "When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so, "

A Catholic explained to me that the Bible was a Roman Catholic book. If The Bible is a Roman Catholic book, then why does does Pope Francis not believe it.

The Big Bang Theory nor theistic evolution is supported by the account of creation in Genesis chapter 1. Genesis chapter 1 tells of a twenty-four hour six day creation performed by God.

The Pope questions God omnipotence. The Bible Catholics claim to be their book says otherwise.

Luke 1:37 "For with God nothing will be impossible." (NKJV)

Jeremiah 32:17 'Ah, Lord God! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. (NKJV)

Jeremiah 32:27 "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? (NKJV)

The Bible teaches creation performed by an omnipotent God.

(NOTE: The Bible is God's book. The Bible is not a Roman Catholic book.)
